On the occasion of the general assembly of the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) asbl on Thursday 24 March 2022, the members approved the annual accounts and the activity report for the financial year 2021, as well as the budget and the action plan proposed for 2022.

Despite the constraints and challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the LCTO received 48,467 visitors to its tourist reception office in 2021 (up 25.6% compared to 2020) and organised 1,563 guided tours (up 29.3%).

In addition, LCTO guides accompanied 3,266 visitors to the Grand Ducal Palace (up 12.5%), with an occupancy rate of 98% of available places.

A very clear increase in traffic was noted on the digital promotion side with a total of 1,387,949 page views (up 59.4%) by 490,914 visitors (up 54.1%) on the luxembourg-city.com website in 2021 and an increasing activity rate on social networks.

Nico Margue, Vice-President of the LCTO, highlighted the importance of the tourist activities offered by the LCTO for the hospitality sector, businesses and cultural actors. He also thanked the staff, the guides, the services of the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) and the partners for their commitment, especially in these times of crisis.

Tom Bellion, Director of the LCTO, presented a detailed action plan for the year 2022. Due to the recent lifting of health restrictions, he said he was optimistic about a return to some normality and a gradual resumption of tourist activities in the capital from Easter.

The City of Luxembourg was represented by two members of the college of aldermen, Serge Wilmes and Maurice Bauer. On behalf of the college of aldermen, Serge Wilmes expressed his gratitude to the LCTO team and the actions carried out in favour of the tourist and cultural development of the city of Luxembourg. He stressed the will of the college of aldermen to continue to fully support the activities and projects initiated by the LCTO.
