The Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg has unveiled a special summer retrospective programme, which will begin on Friday 1 August and run until Friday 5 September 2025.
This marks the final screenings before the cinema closes its doors for major renovation and construction work that will last several years (completion currently scheduled for 2029).
To say goodbye to its beloved vintage cinema (and the balcony, which will be permanently closed) on Place du Théâtre, the Cinémathèque has come up with one last major summer retrospective, centred around the theme "Movieland: Cinema at the Cinema" (films about cinema).
According to the Cinémathèque: "Watching these films together is like entering a dark room with a double mirror: the film you see speaks of the film you could have made, or that you dream of making. It's a play of reflections, a fascinating mise en abyme that celebrates what we love so much - cinema itself".
