On Thursday 24 July 2025, the municipality of Vianden officially inaugurated the large pool of its open-air swimming facility, in the presence of Luxembourg’s Minister for Culture and Minister Delegate for Tourism, Eric Thill, as well as members of the public, the press and Miss Tourisme Luxembourg candidates.
Located on Rue du Sanatorium, the Vianden swimming pool had closed in 2019 for renovation and modernisation works. It partially reopened in July 2024 with access to the smaller pool.
One year later, on 24 July 2025, the 50-metre-long, 12.5-metre-wide large pool section reopened to the public.
The inauguration ceremony included speeches by the Mayor of Vianden, François Weyrich, and Minister Eric Thill. The mayor welcomed guests to the opening of the second phase of the project, noting that work had begun immediately following the first phase. He acknowledged the challenges involved, including the delayed delivery of certain components, but emphasised that the work was completed on time thanks to the efforts of all those involved.
Minister Thill highlighted the pool's value as a tourist attraction for Luxembourg and the surrounding region, serving residents and visitors of all ages. He spoke about how the government supported this project and praised the municipality for its investment and long-term vision. The minister also remarked on the scenic view of Vianden Castle from the site.
The event concluded with a reception hosted by the municipal council of Vianden, featuring refreshments and music.
Guests who had brought swimwear were invited to swim in the newly opened large pool for the first time.
