Luxembourg’s family planning service, Planning Familial, has unveiled a series of initiatives at the start of the 2025 school year to strengthen sexuality education, raise awareness of children’s rights and promote inclusion for young people with disabilities.

According to the service, these actions form part of its ongoing mission to promote health, respect and inclusion, in line with UNESCO’s 2018 International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education, World Health Organization recommendations on comprehensive sexuality education and Luxembourg’s national plan on sexual and relationship health.

Planning Familial will offer awareness sessions in schools and the non-formal education sector, as well as training for education and health professionals. The initiatives aim to provide a safe learning environment where young people can learn about their bodies, understand consent and respectful relationships, and develop positive attitudes towards sexual and emotional health.

Special event on children’s rights

On Thursday 9 October 2025 at 18:30 (reception at 18:00) at the Forum Geesseknäppchen, Planning Familial will host a public event focusing on children’s rights in relation to sexual health, including access to information, adapted care and comprehensive sexuality education. Speakers will include Charel Schmit, Ombudsman fir Kanner a Jugendlecher, and Dr Susanna Greijer, consultant in research, law and policy specialised in children’s rights and protection against violence.

Erasmus+ project on autism

Planning Familial is launching the European project Towards an Inclusive Sexuality Education for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (TAS), funded by Erasmus+ and running from 2025 to 2027. The initiative will create an adapted programme of sexuality education, a multilingual (FR/DE/EN) guide for professionals, as well as online courses, educational videos, a digital platform and workshops. Partners from Croatia, Spain, Ukraine, North Macedonia, Cyprus and Luxembourg are collaborating on the project.

Early childhood education tool

To support professionals, parents and paediatricians, Planning Familial has published a pocket tool on sexuality education for children under five, with a focus on preventing abuse and sexual violence. Available in French and German, the tool covers themes such as self-knowledge, the body, interpersonal skills, relationships and identity.

Relaunch of the “Parents” project

Planning Familial has relaunched its “Parents” project to help families address emotional, relational and sexual issues. It includes practical workshops and resources designed to encourage healthy communication between parents and children.

Upcoming guide on puberty

In the coming weeks, Planning Familial will publish a brochure and video on puberty, available free of charge online. The video, adapted from a Belgian model and translated into Luxembourgish, will provide a general overview for young people, while the brochure addresses common questions collected over the years. This forms the first part of a new project on puberty, first experiences (2026) and sexual rights and consent (2026).
