Hifi International has announced that it is making its "Big Collect" appliance recycling service permanent in its ten appliance shops in Luxembourg.

The brand is offering residents and cross-border workers the opportunity to recycle their old household and multimedia appliances free of charge all year round. Hifi International had already carried out its "Big Collect" operation over a period of one month in 2021.

"We have now decided that the service will be available all year round. In 2021, we collected 480 tonnes of electrical or electronic waste. 2022 objective: increase the collection by 20%!", explained Laurent Martin, After-Sales & Logistics Manager of Hifi International.

Beyond giving a second life to household appliances, the brand has stressed that special attention should be paid to some appliances which contain polluting materials. For example, smartphone batteries are a source of accumulation in the environment of certain heavy metals and other chemicals that can lead to soil contamination and water pollution. The gas contained in a refrigerator motor is also very polluting; a poorly recycled fridge is equivalent to the pollution of a 7,500 kilometre car journey.

Open to Luxembourg residents and Belgian, French and German cross-border workers within a radius of 15 km around Luxembourg, the "Big Collect" service is 100% free and no in-store purchase is necessary. To avail of this service, there are three possibilities: customers can drop off their small appliances in store, order a new delivery to make an exchange of goods or make an appointment so that the Hifi team can collect bulky applicances directly from their home.

In addition to this recycling service, Hifi International is organising several other actions to reduce its environmental impact, such as the installation of solar panels on the building housing its depot and offices, the decarbonisation of its vehicle fleet, the use of recycled materials for packaging and the promotion of products with eco-friendly packaging and an eco-design.
