On Monday 26 April 2021, the City of Luxembourg inaugurated the first pop-up store in the Luxembourg-Gare district.

Following the success of this concept in Luxembourg's old town (Ville Haute), the Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer, joined chief alderman Serge Wilmes and alderman Patrick Goldschmidt yesterday in inaugurating the first pop-up store on Avenue de la Gare.

In December 2020, the City of Luxembourg presented its project “Mon quartier - Mon commerce” / “Mäi Quartier - Mäi Buttek”, aimed at revitalising neighbourhood commerce and reviving the commercial attractiveness of the city centre. Following the launch of the call for applications, the City of Luxembourg selected "The Plug" to occupy a new pop-up store located at 44 Avenue de la Gare until 15 July 2021.

Covering a total area of 200 m2, the concept store puts the spotlight on trainers by exclusively offering pairs that only exist in limited numbers; the pop-up store thus fills a hitherto unoccupied niche in the Luxembourg market. The store is managed by three young entrepreneurs driven by a common passion and who recently opened a store in Hamburg in Germany.

In order to gradually extend the concept of pop-up stores to other districts of the capital, the City of Luxembourg has launched an appeal to the owners of temporarily unoccupied stores. Owners wishing to have more information and who would like to participate in this project are asked to contact the economic and commercial development department of the City of Luxembourg via tel.: 4796-5000 (Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 12:00 and 14:00 - 17:00) or via email: dec@vdl.lu.
