On Friday 4 July 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister for Research and Higher Education, Stéphanie Obertin, and the Director General of the Fondation de Luxembourg, Tonika Hirdman, presented three students with scholarships from the Auguste van Werveke-Hanno.

Created in 2002 through the will of the late Anita van Werveke-Hanno, the Auguste van Werveke-Hanno Foundation supports Luxembourgish students or residents of Luxembourg who pursue studies in architecture or fine arts. Anita van Werveke-Hanno established the foundation in memory of her father, Auguste van Werveke-Hanno, who taught drawing at the State Artisans’ School during his lifetime. In July 2021, the foundation became a sheltered foundation under the Fondation de Luxembourg, which now handles its administrative and financial management.

Each scholarship currently provides €5,000 and the foundation awards them annually based on the quality of the applicant’s portfolio, extracurricular involvement, motivation, academic results and progress in their studies. The selection committee also conducts individual interviews with shortlisted candidates.

The scholarship recipients include Lara Schmitz (architecture) and Gilles Schneider and Ugur Darya Eroglu (fine arts). During the award ceremony, each recipient spoke about their background, current projects and how the scholarship will support their ongoing studies or professional career.
