Match has recalled a cheese product from its Luxembourg stores due to the presence of toxigenic bacteria.
The European Commission's Rapid Alert Food System has informed the Luxembourg Food Safety Authorities of the contamination of some cheeses with Escherichia coli bacteria that can produce toxins (shigatoxins).
The product in question is: FROMI brand Tradermo Chaource AOP cheese, 250g, originating from France. The product has the expiry date 18/05/2019 and batch number 227078. Only products with the stated use-by date are affected.
Whilst the product in question has since been withdrawn from Match stores in Luxembourg, some of the inventory was sold.
The product contains bacteria that can cause foodborne illness that can occur within a week of consumption and result in gastrointestinal disorders often accompanied by cramps. These symptoms may be aggravated in young children, individuals with weak immune systems and the elderly. As such, people who have consumed these products and experience such symptoms are advised to consult a doctor and report consumption of the product in question.
The Luxembourg Food Safety Authorities have recommended that consumers no longer consume the product described above and return it to the point of sale.
