On Wednesday 18 March 2026, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) and Union commerciale de la Ville de Luxembourg (UCVL) announced the spring shop window competition “Blooming Windows”.
According to the VdL, as part of this competition, retailers located within the capital are invited to decorate their shop windows and/or façades with botanical elements, plant-based touches, organic materials or floral arrangements, in order to bring “freshness and a sense of poetry to the heart of the city”.
A jury will assess the decorations of participating businesses according to defined criteria (overall aesthetics, technical execution, originality and creativity, integration of products into the display and a special commendation) and will designate three joint winners, each of whom will receive a grant of €2,000 provided by the VdL.
In addition, the public will be able to vote for its favourite shop window via a form accessible through a QR code displayed on a sticker and poster distributed to participating businesses. The business receiving the highest number of votes will also be awarded €2,000.
The competition rules and participation form are available at www.concours-cityshopping.lu.
Registration closes on Tuesday 31 March 2026.
As part of the competition, the VdL is offering free visual merchandising training sessions to retailers in the capital to help them showcase their products and optimise their communication with customers. During these workshops, participants will learn the fundamentals of window display design in order to create an impactful display using their products and will develop a shop window project to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice.
The sessions will take place at the Design Hub of the City of Luxembourg (42–44 Rue de Hollerich) on Tuesday 21 April 2026 from 14:00 to 18:00 and on Wednesday 22 April 2026 from 16:00 to 20:00.
Registration for the sessions is mandatory via email dec@vdl.lu.
The VdL stressed that there is a limit of ten participants per session and registrations will be processed on a first come, first served basis.
The VdL said these initiatives form part of the joint objective of the VdL and the UCVL to strengthen commercial attractiveness, attract a diverse audience and create a dynamic retail environment, while actively involving local businesses.
