The instigators behind OUNI, the first packaging-free organic grocery shop project in Luxembourg, have announced a information evening to be held on Monday 14 March 2016 at Casino Bonnevoie.

The bilingual info event, which will be held from 18:00-19:30 in Luxembourgish and from 19:30-21:00 in French, will present the option for potential OUNI ('Organic Unpackaged Natural Ingredients') members to meet the team, discover the concept behind the project and engage in a Q&A session.

The OUNI team announced that the cooperative has managed to meet 25% of its financial goals since being officially formed on 6 February 2016. The Facebook page alone received more than 2,000 Likes within the first three days of its creation, whilst over 300 people participated in the group's first information evening which took place later that same month at Rotondes. The team has claimed that this is the result of growing concerns amongst residents of measures they can take to reduce waste and follow a more sustainable lifestyle.

OUNI attempts to cater to this desire, by providing organic, local and/or Fairtrade food and household products in bulk or in glass jars and bottles, which can subsequently be reused by customers and eliminates the waste that results from excess packaging. In addition, it will aim to create a community feel through its enviromentally-friendly ethos, by providing a café and workshop calendar in which all citizens may partake.

However, the project will not be able to get off the ground until OUNI has acquired enough capital through memberships to rent a location, purchase equipment and stock and hire staff. Membership is provided to everyone who buys a minimum of one 100€ share, with members then gaining access to a variety of benefits according to their regular or active membership, such as discounts and invitations to special events. As the name suggests, the active membership involves a more hands-on contribution, incorporating two hours of volunteering per month and participation in working groups to help further develop the project.

"Anyone can buy a share and help make OUNI a reality," explained Caroline Lam, one of the project founders and a future shop manager.
