On Tuesday 26 January 2016, Cactus S.A. opened its first 'Shoppi' convenience store in Aldringen in Luxembourg City.
The 23rd of its kind, this new Cactus Shoppi draws on a similar concept to the American 'deli', allowing the Luxembourg public to pass by and quickly pick up essentials on their lunch break or at the end of the day, or drop in for a coffee to go and take away a hot meal or seasonal salad.
According to Cactus, the idea for the Shoppi arose from the growing trend amongst the general population to opt for eating outside or on the go rather than at home or in a restaurant. This latest installment represents a partnership between Cactus and the POST Group, which provided the space around the corned from the POST building where the new Shoppi has been established.
"Since 2008, the date when we opened our first Shoppi in Ettelbruck, we have been working tirelessly on the development of this network," Cactus Director Laurent Schonckert commented at the shop's opening, at which Deputy Mayor Sam Tanson and Director General of POST Luxembourg, Claude Strasser, also spoke. "From tomorrow, we will also be present in the city centre, in an area which is changing all the time and which will hold an entirely new appearance in a few years. This area, with its central location and numerous passages, is in our opinion the ideal place for a Shoppi. As you can tell, this shop is not very big, but we have nevertheless managed to set up around 500 items of general merchandise there."
Products on offer include fresh sandwiches, baguettes and doughnuts from Pains & Tradition; de Schnékert Traiteur ranges; GINKO sushi; Cactus Hausgemaacht beefburgers, Grillwurst and Bifana; freah fruits and vegetables; Leonidas Belgian chocolates; and Bruno Bio-Fairtrade coffee to go. Thousands of cups will be freely distributed around the City today, Wednesday 27 January 2016, entitling recipients to a cup of this coffee at Cactus Shoppi Aldringen.
A team of five employees, managed by Sven Bertemes, will be on hand at the Cactus Shoppi along rue de la Poste during the following opening hours:
- Monday to Friday: 07:00 - 19:30
- Saturdays: 09:00 - 18:30.
