Belgian cooperative BelOrta and the Luxembourg Food Safety Service have advised the public to avoid consuming Milan cabbages due to the high levels of herbicides they have been reported to contain.
Milan cabbages in 40x60 crates, with the registration number 102425 - P 328 are thought to have been compromised by high levels of the dimethoate and fluazifop-p-butyl pesticides and as a result have been recalled from the shelves of Colruyt Luxembourg shops.
However, it is possible that some of these products were sold between 17 and 28 September 2015 and the public is therefore warned to avoid consuming them should they have been purchased between these dates and these dates only. No other products are concerned.
Fluazifop-p-butyl is a herbicide, which was found in concentrations in the cabbages exceeding the permitted dose. These substances may have harmful effects on the kidneys and liver but holds no neurotoxic, genotoxic or carcinogenic potential.
Customers who purchased a Milan cabbage during these dates are invited to return the product to the Colruyt Luxembourg store of purchase, along with the receipt, in return for a reimbursement.
