On Monday 5 August 2024, Luxembourg's railway operator CFL confirmed details of the railway works being undertaken between Luxembourg and Bettembourg between 12 August and 15 September 2024.

The CFL is putting on a fleet of replacement buses as it will be interrupting rail traffic between Luxembourg and Bettembourg to continue to carry out work on the future connection of the new Luxembourg – Bettembourg line at both the Bettembourg and Luxembourg stations and, in particular, to continue the extension of the Howald interchange hub. In total, around ten service providers will be involved during the period to carry out some 850 journeys each day (on weekdays) in both directions of traffic.

The first phase of works with the complete closure of Bettembourg station will end on 11 August 2024; this means that no trains will run until this date between Luxembourg and Thionville, Luxembourg and Esch/Alzette, Bettembourg and Dudelange – Volmerange-les-Mines as well as between Noertzange and Rumelange.

The works of the second phase (from 12 August to 15 September) only concern the Luxembourg – Bettembourg route.

The CFL stated that it is prioritising weekends and school holidays to carry out its work on the railway infrastructure due to the lower number of trains during these periods.

TGV travel

After being welcomed in Rodange up to 11 August 2024 as part of the CFL's summer works, the TGVs that usually depart from Luxembourg Station (to Paris Est, Montpellier and Marseille) will instead depart from Bettembourg and Metz-Ville stations between 12 August and 15 September 2024.

Replacement buses are being put in place for customers holding a TGV ticket (reservation required) departing from Luxembourg Gare (round trip). In Bettembourg, the TGV bus terminus is located at Zone B, on the left of the passenger building (front view).

Customers who have booked a TGV journey during this period are requested to check the information on their boarding ticket to find out the departure point of their replacement bus and the TGV. Customers who have booked their TGV ticket via the CFL (booking online, by phone or at the counter) can contact the CFL for any questions on tel: 2489-2489.

For all the details concerning their journey, the CFL has asked its customers to consult the timetable search on www.cfl.lu or in the CFL mobile application.
