On the evening of Saturday 16 May 2026, Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, confirmed the gradual resumption of service on two railway lines following a power supply issue near Bettembourg.
Earlier on Saturday, the CFL said its technical teams on-site had not yet resolved the problem affecting the power supply system. Following repair work, rail traffic was suspended on the Luxembourg - Thionville - Metz line, while trains on the Luxembourg - Esch-sur-Alzette - Rodange line were operating only between Rodange and Esch-sur-Alzette.
At around 22:00, the CFL announced the gradual resumption of train services on both lines, although some delays and cancellations were still possible.
The CFL confirmed that the disruption was caused by a problem affecting the electric traction system north of Bettembourg station.
According to the CFL, the time required to resolve the issue was mainly due to the difficulty in precisely locating the source of the problem, as well as the need to carry out interventions in compliance with rail traffic and passenger safety requirements.
At the time of writing on Monday 18 May 2026, the CFL website was still reporting possible delays and cancellations despite the issue having been resolved.
