Luxembourg’s Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has confirmed that the sixth edition of the Summer School is taking place from Monday 1 to Friday 12 September 2025, offering free and optional academic support in public schools at the end of the summer break.
The Summer School initiative provides primary and secondary school pupils with the opportunity to refresh their knowledge, consolidate what they have learned during the past school year and catch up on any delays in their main subjects.
Launched in 2020 to address learning gaps caused by the COVID-19 crisis, the programme has since become an established part of Luxembourg’s academic support system. It aims to address the diverse needs of students and contribute to greater equality of opportunity within the education system.
This year, 6,932 pupils registered for guided activities, including 5,531 from fundamental (primary) education and 1,401 from secondary education. In primary education, German language courses accounted for 66.52% of registrations, with language courses overall making up 73.75% of total enrolments. In secondary education, mathematics was the most popular subject, representing 33.4% of registrations, followed by French (24.8%) and German (18.6%).
461 Volunteers Mobilised
In primary education, 313 volunteers are supporting the programme, including 91 teachers and 222 students (with at least a secondary school diploma). In secondary education, 148 volunteers are involved, comprising 36 teachers and 112 students. All student volunteers were required to complete online training offered by the National Institute for Teacher Training (Institut de Formation de l’Éducation Nationale - IFEN) and the SCRIPT.
Summer School lessons are based on thematic files developed by the Coordination Service for Educational and Technological Research and Innovation (SCRIPT). These files cover the main subjects (German, French and mathematics in primary education; German, French, English and mathematics in secondary education) and are available for classes from cycle 2 to grade 4.
The files are accessible via the platform www.summerschool.lu using each pupil’s IAM login from 15 July until 15 September 2025. They include model solutions and can be used independently or with parental support.
According to the ministry, the platform was visited 17,275 times between 15 July and 25 August 2025, and the files were downloaded 22,232 times.
