On Monday 24 March 2025, Luxembourg’s Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, and the Director of the Luxembourg School of Hospitality and Tourism (EHTL), Michel Lanners, presented the school’s new facility, located in the GridX building in Wickrange.

This new facility  will complement the EHTL campus in Diekirch starting from the 2025/2026 academic year. The aim of this new location is twofold: to improve access to EHTL training programmes for students in the south and centre of the country and to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals in the HORECA (hospitality) sector.

According to the Ministry of Education, in the 2024/2025 school year, 17% of EHTL students in Diekirch lived in the south and 22% in the centre. “With the new EHTL facility in Wickrange, we are bringing the educational offer of this specialised school closer to students living in the south and centre of the country. This is a concrete example of our commitment to providing all young people with the same educational opportunities and chances of success, regardless of where they live,” stated Minister Meisch.

The opening of the EHTL Campus Sud site in Wickrange will take place in two phases. Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, several first-year training programmes will be offered:

- the Vocational Aptitude Diploma (DAP) in Restaurant Services;
- the Technician’s Diploma (DT) in Hospitality and Management;
- the DT in Tourism and Communication;
- the General Secondary School Leaving Diploma in Hospitality Management;
- a dedicated training course for individuals with international protection status.

In 2026, additional programmes will further expand the educational offer:

- the DAP in Table Service;
- the English-language DAP in Restaurant Services;
- the Advanced Technician’s Certificate (BTS) in Hospitality Management;
- the BTS in Tourism and Communication.

In terms of infrastructure, the first floor will be operational by the 2025/2026 school year and will include classrooms for theoretical lessons, a resource centre, a sensory analysis department, a bistro, offices and staff areas, meeting rooms and changing facilities. From 2026, the facilities will be expanded to include professional kitchens, training restaurants – including one open to the public – and a patisserie.

EHTL Director Michel Lanners explained to Chronicle.lu the main reasons behind opening additional capacity for the school: “First of all, indeed, the school […] is full, full, full. And because it's located in Diekirch, it's difficult for students living in the south of the country to [reach] Diekirch within a reasonable time with public transport. So coming closer with the school to the south of the country, that gives a lot more students the possibility to [register] and to come and to be interested in such kind of trainings. The other side, the school has been designed for 250 people, 60-70 years ago. But meanwhile, Luxembourg’s population doubled. So we need more capacities and that's not only because there's a school which is full, but also for the sector, which is really lacking manpower in the hospitality area. We expect that 70 to 80 students will be able to study here across five classrooms. That would be perfect.”

According to the Ministry of Education, the installation in Wickrange will serve as a temporary solution pending the completion of renovation works at the Château de Sanem, which is set to become the permanent southern campus of the EHTL, in line with a government decision taken in 2021.
