The Ministry of Education, Childhood and Youth announced Wednesday that a total of 110 students have been enrolled in classes at the International School of Differdange (EIDD) for the school year 2016-2017.
As registrations closed on Tuesday 15 March 2016, the Ministry attributed the interest shown in the new school to a growing demand for a diversified educational offer that meets the needs of an increasingly heterogeneous student population.
The majority of students have chosen to enter the French-speaking section. 45 new students have been enrolled in the first year of primary education (24 in the Francophone section and 21 in the Anglophone section), 57 to the first year of secondary education (49 as Francophones and 8 as Anglophones) and 8 into the preparatory course.
The 110 students comprise 20 different nationalities, with French being the most common (29 students), followed by Portugese (25) and Luxembourgish (17). The vast majority, 70, are students from a municipality in the south of the country, with 43 from Differdange itself. It was previously announced that priority would be given to students residing nearby. 29 students are residents of another municipality in the country, whilst two live in Belgium and nine in France.
These 110 students have now filled up the French and English primary and French secondary classes. Late registrations are reportedly still possible, but will involve being put on a waiting list.
