On Thursday 25 June 2026, the municipal council of Niederanven announced that due to exceptionally high temperatures and a red alert, all pupils at the “Am Sand" primary school will be granted time off on the afternoon of Friday 26 June 2026, from 14:00 to 16:00.

In a press release, the council said the closure followed a consultation with the school committee.

Lessons will take place on Friday morning as usual, from 08:00 to 11:50 or 12:15 respectively. Pupils are required to attend morning classes; school attendance remains compulsory until 12:00 without restriction. The school will, however, remain open.

For pupils who are at school in the afternoon from 14:00 to 16:00, supervision will be provided by teaching staff.

The Maison Relais will operate as normal from 12:15 to 14:00, as well as from 16:00 to 19:00.

School transport, as well as the Pedibus routes, will run at their usual times.

For organisational and safety reasons, the council asked parents to inform the teaching staff whether one’s child will attend afternoon supervision at the school or not, and to notify the Maison Relais if one’s child will not be attending from 12:15 onwards.

The music school will remain closed due to the heatwave on Thursday 25, Friday 26 and Saturday 27 June.
