The Maison du Grand-Duc has reported that Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg received Luc Frieden in audience at the Grand Ducal Palace on Thursday 19 October 2023 for an update on coalition talks.
On Monday 9 October 2023, the day after Luxembourg's legislative elections, Grand Duke Henri invited Luc Frieden to lead coalition talks to form a new government. The latter was thus officially appointed "formateur" of the next government.
Following his appointment, Luc Frieden invited representatives of his own party, the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), and those of the Democratic Party (DP) to engage in coalition negotiations. These talks are ongoing, as the CSV and the DP work to agree on a programme of government. In the meantime, the current/outgoing DP-LSAP-Greens government remains in office.
On Thursday, the Grand Duke invited Luc Frieden to the Grand Ducal Palace to take stock of the negotiations aimed at forming a new government. No further details were disclosed.
