Luxembourg Interior Minister Dan Kersch and the Mayor of Luxembourg City Lydie Polfer were present for the laying of the foundation stone for a new National Fire and Rescue Centre building at Ban de Gasperich on Friday last.
The new Centre is part of the emergency services reform, implemented by the draft law on the organisation of civil security and the creation of a Grand-Ducal Fire Corps (CGDIS), deposited on 18 August 2015 in the Chamber of Deputies by Minister Dan Kersch.
The CNIS will unify the professional fire station of the City of Luxembourg, currently on Rue de Arlon, the administrative directorate of the rescue services, currently on Rue Christophe Plantin, emergency rescue services, which are currently in Schimpach, as well as the National School of Fire and Rescue Services, which is currently in Niederfeulen.
The project is a central element in the reform of the rescue services, which plans to consolidate all the public relief services in the Grand Duchy into a new single structure in the form of a public institution managed jointly by the state and municipalities. The CNIS will house the future management of the public institution, the National Institute for Emergency Training, as well as the fire and rescue centre covering the City of Luxembourg.
