Luxembourg’s Prime Minister and Minister of State Xavier Bettel attended the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Rome Treaties in Rome this weekend.

On Saturday, the meeting of EU Heads of State or Government in Rome provided an opportunity to reflect on the state of the EU and the future of the integration process. At the meeting, the heads of state and government renewed their European commitment, signing a solemn declaration, 60 years after the signing of the founding treaty of the Union was signed in the same place in Rome.

“The enemies of yesterday are sitting around the same table today. In the space of 60 years, they have become partners working together for the good of European citizens. This is one of the great merits of the European Union,” said the Prime Minister at the end of the ceremony.

"The European Union has greatly improved the daily life of its citizens. The role of politics is to remind citizens,” he added.
