Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, was in Switzerland this week, accompanied by HRH the Grand Duchess, to attend the World Economic Forum summit held in Davos.

From 20 to 22 January 2016, the Luxembourg PM and Minister of State participated in a panel discussion entitled 'Governors Policy Meeting for Media, Entertainment and Information'. During the meeting, he stressed the EU's need for a dynamic market which would allow for the easy running of a business with a few barriers to entry, but without excessive regulation.

"We must encourage creativity," stated Xavier Bettel. "It is the basis of all innovation."

The Luxembourg PM was also invited to speak at a panel on diversity in the workplace alongside officials and business leaders from companies such as Lloyds, HSBC and EY. A high-level breakfast was held on Friday morning in the presence of entrepreneurs, both those with existing business in Luxembourg and those looking to set up shop in the Grand Duchy.

Xavier Bettel held a meeting with David Cameron for the second time after being received by his British counterpart in London last October. Discussions between the two prime ministers focused on British demands in terms of the referendum on the UK's membership of the EU which will be on the agenda of the European Council on 18 and 19 February 2016.

Prime Minister Bettel also met with the Kazakh Prime Minister, Karim Massimov, to take stock of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Luxembourg Prime Minister and HRH the Grand Duchess also held meetings with several representatives of international organisations, including Ángel Gurría, Secretary General of the OECD; Irina Bokova, the Director General of UNESCO; Houlin Zhao, Secretary General of the Union International Telecommunications; and Jin Liqun, chairman of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the latter of which Luxembourg Finance Minister, Pierre Gramegna, is governor.
