The Ville de Luxembourg has announced the start of the new “Sports For All” season for this coming Monday 29 September. The initiative consists of a ‘sport-leisure’ programme for residents and will run all the way until 12 July 2015.

It will comprise a wide array of over 160 organised activities and classes promoting leisure, fitness and health through sport - indoors and out, for all tastes and for all ages, with specific programmes for youth, adults and seniors. From Monday to Sunday, from morning to night at over thirty different locations across the city, anyone is welcome to get involved free of charge.

The programme for the youth is mostly aimed at twelve to sixteen year-olds, with a few exceptions, and contains more than twenty-five sporting activities including break-dancing, fitness-dancing, skateboarding, indoor football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, aikido, airgun shooting, archery, combined activities and even jogging (Tuesday nights at Kiem, Friday nights in Belair and Saturday mornings at Baumbusch).

For the first time the Sports Service is organising Zumba classes for children seven to eleven years-old, as well as for the aforementioned youth (twelve to sixteen), taking place every Thursday afternoon in Cessange.

As in past years, special classes will be available for children (eight to twelve years-old) with weight problems.

Participation is free, but those interested in participating are required to register at the Sports Service.

Over ninety classes are available for adults in the programme. These include: fitness, normal gym and ‘aqua-gym’ sessions, weight training/bodybuilding, jogging (beginner, soft, intermediate, advanced levels), Nordic Walking, self-defence, badminton, volleyball, table tennis. Besides these “traditional”sporting activities, the programme has also scheduled innovative ones like fitness fiesta, tijiquan, qi gong, gym relaxation and joint gym sessions between children and their parents.

Among the hightlights, are a new stretching class (Wednesday mornings in Hollerich), as well as a body shape class (during lunch break in Limpertsberg), which have been added this year.

As for the senior programme, for those over the age of fifty-five, the Sports Service is offering several activities that are especially adapted and suited to the needs and physical skills of the age group. Walking, Nordic Walking, Aqua-Gym, light gym sessions, stretching, weight training on machines, senior dance, senior sports, Ski Gymnastics, curling and chess are some of the featured activities.

From April, open-air activities will be added to the programme further increasing the number of options for the fifty-five and over category. One free course is offered, with registration required.
