STATEC, Luxembourg's national statistics office, has published a list of the Grand Duchy's top employers as at 1 January 2017.
The list is broken down by size and branch of economic activity, respectively, and is drawn up on the basis of an annual non-compulsory survey of enterprises and groups of undertakings located in Luxembourg and occupying at least 90 persons on 1 January 2017. It covers the activities of industry, construction, trade and most service activities.
1. Group Post Luxembourg (4,350) - post & telecom services (remaining 1st)
2. Groupe CFL (4,170) - railways (up from 4th)
3. Groupe ArcelorMittal (4,160) - industry (down from 2nd)
4. Groupe Cactus (4,030) - retail (down from 3rd)
5. BGL BNP Paribas (3,700) - finance
6. Groupe Dussmann Luxembourg (3,650) - cleaning services
7. Goodyear Dunlop Tires Operations SA (3,410) - industry
8. Groupe PricewaterhouseCoopers (2,840) - tax, audit, consulting
9. Luxair SA (2,630) - air travel
10. Fondation Hôpitaux Robert Schuman (2,210) - medical care
The Luxembourg state is still the largest employer with 26,720 staff on its books at 1 January 2017. The Ville de Luxembourg has 3,996 staff employed.
