Professor Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht of Stanford University, one of the most influential literary theorists and one of the most important thinkers in the humanities today, will give two lectures. The first lecture will try to show how Diderot’s works shaped a space of thought that used to be peripheral in relation to the concept of "Enlightenment", but may have a specific affinity to both practical and spiritual key concerns of our present. In the second event, Prof Gumbrecht analyses the factors that made Karl Marx' works the most influential body of secular texts in human history and the elements in his work that have an intellectual use value for today.
The lectures take place on 6 June at 10:00 and on 7 June at 16:00 at the Maison du Savoir on Campus Belval, University of Luxembourg.
