Three guided tours (in French) organised by the National Museum of History and Art (MNHA) and Musée 3 Eechelen offer an opportunity to explore Luxembourg in greater depth.
“From military wastelands to optimal city” is a discovery of Luxembourg’s transformation from an ancient fortress city into an open space, with bastions converted to panoramic terraces, impasses to large boulevards and old barracks to bourgeois villas on 14 May. Including a review of architectural choices made between 1867 and 1920, the tour takes in a consideration of Luxembourg’s spell as a garden city.
Led by Robert L. Philippart, the tour leaves the Place de la Constitution at 14:30 finishing at the “Amélie” monument in the municipal park at 16:00 and is free.
On 28 May, visitors can take a nostalgic journey with Robert L. Philippart, J.P. Hoffmann and Romain Rech for “The tram ride from the first tram line to the historic bus» tour which takes a look at Luxembourg’s adoption of the horse-drawn tramway in 1875, providing the city with an instrument of development which had proved its worth abroad and linked to the idea of the development of the city.

On 17 June, André Bruns and Robert L. Philippart lead the “Park, casements and J.P. Pescatore Foundation” tour taking visitors back to the origins of the Foundation, its choice of location, modern approach to architecture, and the chapel where General George S. Patton said his prayer for fair weather, as well as the casemates of the ancient fort Berlaimont.
The tour leaves 13 Avenue Jean-Pierre Pescatore at 14:30, finishing at the J.P. Pescatore Foundation Park at 16:00, and costs €5.
