More than 430 flights across Europe were cancelled yesterday, creating severe delays and detours across the Continent, as a result of the French air traffic controllers’ (ATC) strike, said Airlines for Europe (A4E) in a statement yesterday.
The organisation said that this brings the number of flights cancelled to 800 by the end of the second day of the ATC’s strike action, and that tomorrow more cancellations on routes to and from Brest, Bordeaux and Marseille can be expected.
According to the organisation, which represents the interests of European airlines who fly more than two-thirds of European passenger flights, the worst affected countries, outside of France are Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, Ireland and Germany.
A4E said that between 2010 and 2016, the ATC accounted for 217 strike days costing €12 billion to the EU economy.
