As part of International Women’s Day, the University of Luxembourg, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Zonta Club Luxembourg have organised a screening of the documentary Sonita on 7 march 2017 at Limpertsberg Campus, from 19:00 to 21:30. The screening of Sonita, a documentary about an 18-year-old undocumented Afghan illegal immigrant living in the suburbs of Tehran, will be preceded by a welcome speech by the university’s president Rainer Klump. Gerfa Vrielink from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Luxembourg, will act as moderator at the event. The documentary tells the story of young illegal immigrant Sonita whose ambitions to be a singer conflict with her family’s plan to sell her hand in marriage, for around US $9,000, to another family. The screening will be followed by an open debate and a reception. Entry to the event is free of charge.
