The Grand Ducal Police were called to an address on the rue de Differdange in Soleuvre on Tuesday evening, by a neighbour who feared for the welfare of a number of sheep which apparently were without food nor water.
When police officers arrived at the address they found that food and water were indeed available, but one of the sheep was unable to stand up and lay twitching on the ground. A vessel nearby contained a small amount of greenish-coloured water. The police officers also established that the owners were away on holiday.
They contacted the public prosecutor who requested that veterinarian should inspect the sheep which should then be confiscated. When they tried to give water and food to the sheep lying on the ground, the animal did not take any. The vet examined the sheep and decided it was in a poor state of health and could not be saved, so it was euthanised.
The police officers managed to contact the owners who stated that they had left enough food and water and a family member was to check on the sheep during their holiday. The remaining sheep were confiscated.
