From Friday 24 to Sunday 26 June 2016, Technoport-FabLab and Rotondes will be hosting the Luxembourg edition of the global CycleHack taking place simultaneously in more than 40 cities around the world.

The event aims to reduce barriers to cycling through creative solutions and has been sponsored by Verkéiersverbond, Sopra Steria, Lëtzebuerger Vëlos-Initiativ (LVI), Project Bike and Ready Coffeeshop.

The weekend will kick off on Friday 24 June 2016 with a keynote presentation by Marc van Woudenberg, an urban mobility consultant and international bicycle ambassador behind the popular blog Amsterdamize. This will be followed by a series of five-minute talks by locals on their personal experiences, including Jean-Michel Mertz from start-up Bike43; Pierre Englebert from the local branch of Cycling without Age, among others. The presentations will be followed by an open mic session, enabling audience members to share their own experiences and ideas and a brainstorming session to identify the different barriers to cycling that exist in Luxembourg.

On the Saturday morning, registered participants will be divided into teams and will then be asked to choose the barriers they wish to tackle, for which they will be given until Sunday afternoon to develop their 'hacks' and create prototypes, which can range from apps to clothing and bike infrastructure to awareness campaigns. Breakfast, lunch and drinks will be provided to participants on both days, as well as access to dedicated workspaces and prototyping materials.

Everyone is invited to sign up, whether cyclists, developers, designers, makers or those who are simply interested in helping to make their city a better place to live. Tickets can be purchased online until 24 June 2016.

From 14:00-17:00 on Sunday afternoon, a series of free bike activities will be organised in the courtyard of Rotondes, including the Dr. Bike repair workshop, where visitors can get their bikes fixed and tuned up.

At 17:00, the CycleHack teams will pitch the ideas they have been working on and present their prototypes before the public and a jury which will include future Rotondes director Staeve Meyers. Prizes will be up for grabs designed to help the teams further develop their projects: access to the co-working space at Technoport, access to FabLab prototyping equipment, and the use of Rotondes’ new Studio 1 project space, including a coaching session. Runners-up also have the chance to win stylish bike accessories from Project Bike.
