On Saturday 23 April 2016, thousands of rubber ducks will be released into the Pétrusse river in the spirit of Luxembourg City's 15th annual Duck Race.
Whilst entertainment for children and adults is available at noon, it is at 15:00 that around 15,000 ducks will be launched into the Pétrusse below the viaduct, with visitors spread over two villages. The race will be made up of three rounds: two qualifying rounds and the final, with the arrival planned for the height of the village, at the entrance to rue Saint-Quirin.
The traditional event is organised every year by the Table Ronde Luxembourgeoise under the High Patronage of the City of Luxembourg and its proceeds are donated to charity. This year, it is Caritas Luxembourg, Association Thérapie Équestre and Hëllef fir de Puppelchen which will benefit from the money raised.
Individuals wishing to participate in the event can purchase tickets in advance at the price of 5€, which provides them with a duck which will compete to cross the finishing line. Presale ticket points are at the Luxembourg City Tourist Office at Place Guillaume II, Asport, AutoCenter Goedert subsidiaries as well as Jerry Travel in Belval and La Fermette. Tickets, as well as further information, are also available online at www.duckrace.lu, as well as from Table Ronde members. The last chance to participate will be by purchasing tickets on site before the start of the race.
The first ducks to cross the finish line will earn their 'owners' one of many prizes, such as trips, vouchers and dinners. For the 2016 edition, the first prize will be a Suzuki Vitara provided by Autopolis.
