On Friday evening, the Brasserie Benelux in Strassen was the venue for the most recent event organised by WeOrganize.lu, an Indonesian Soirée.

For those who may not have been inside the venue before, it has offers a front room in traditional Luxembourg café style, but it is what is at the back is so interesting - a large dining area and dance floor with charm and character. WeOrganize.lu, under the guidance of Mary-Rose De Vries and her assistant Joanne Walter, attracted almost 70 attendees who were seated at a mix of small and large tables, offering those who prefered to mix in large groups the opportunity to chat and socialise, with other preferring a more private evening.

Under the stewardship of David George, the owner of Brasserie Benelux who took over the establishment just a few months ago, the event ran like clockwork. Mary-Rose and Joanne ensured everyone was seated and comfortable, and supplied with a welcome banana and Sprite cocktail before explaining how the evening would work - basically, the entrées and desserts would be served at the tables, with the main course being self-service buffet style.

The menu had been carefully prepared by a specialist Indonesian chef brought in just for this event. With Loempia (spring rolls) to start with, the main course offered a variety of delicacies, ranging from Babi Kecap (Braised Pork), Sate Ayam (Chicken Satay served with Peanut Sauce), Sayur Lodeh (mixed vegetables in coconut sauce; more a soup), Telur Balado  (Hard Boiled Eggs in a very spicy chilli sauce), accompanied by Nasi Puti (white rice), Bakmie Goreng (Vegetarian Fried Noodles) and Krupuk (prawn crackers). And the dessert was Es Teler (Avocado, Jack Fruit and Nata De Coco with Crushed Ice), a refreshing end to the meal.

In between courses, two delightful ladies from Indonesia provided the entertainment with traditional songs, music and dance from Indonesia. While the sound system could possibly have deliver clearer audio quality, most of those attending could see and hear the two performers who certainly added to the authenticity of the evening which was superbly organised by WeOrganize.lu with David George, the venue's owner ensuring the service and whole operation ran like clockwork.
