Conducted by Stuart Alexander and accompanied on piano by Liz Turner, the Christmas Tree Singers performed their annual concert of Christmas songs and carols from the bandstand in the Place d'Armes in Luxembourg city centre on Sunday evening.
Warming up (the crowd) with A Little Town in Bethlehem, they quickly upped the tempo with a bouncy rendition of Joy to the World. When Silent Night and In The Bleak Mid-Winter came around the hum of the festival crowd subdued so they could listen to and appreciate the sweet harmonies, with White Christmas also falling into that category too.
Many of the crowd visiting the Christmas Market in the Place d'Armes joined in vocally (particularly with Decorate the Halls and Jingle Bells), with rounds of applause echoing around the square. They rounded off the concert with the traditional last rendition of We Wish You A Merry Christmas, a fitting finale to the concert of Christmas cheer.
Although temperatures were unseasonably warm, there was still plenty of gluhwein consumed and hot snacks from the various market chalets which were open all afternoon and evening (due to close at 17:00 on 24 December).
The Christmas Tree Singers had rehearsed over a ten-week period in the run-up to this concert, with a second concert at the Church in Bofferdange during the week.
