On 16 September 2015, Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, was in Wiltz to visit the Tarkett centre for research and innovation in the Salzbaach area.
With experience spanning 130 years, Tarkett has become a worldwide leader in innovative solutions for sports grounds and surface coatings with 12,000 collaborators worldwide, of which 180 are dedicated to Research & Development. The company also invests in eco-innovation through its commitment to the sustainable development of the circular economy.
Francine Closener was at the centre in Wiltz, which employs 60 people, to find out more on the Tarkett research projects which have been supported by the Ministry of Economy through the aid scheme for research, development and innovation. One such project example was 'Floor in Motion', a smart flooring service used particularly in senior centres, which allows the detection or continual tracking of residents' movements, in order to alert medical teams in the event of a fall.
"With its industrial site in Lentzweiler and its research centre in Wiltz, Tarkett is a model company in Luxembourg, both through its investments in R&D as well as its commitment in favour of the circular economy of which Tarkett is an international standard," commented Francine Closener. "Particularly through its expertise in this area, Tarkett will help us to implement the circular economy more broadly in Luxembourg by setting an example to other national companies".
