Following a recent attack on a railway agent at Ettelbrück train station earlier this month, the trade union LCGB-ACAP has come forward to call for enhanced security measures to guarantee the safety of drivers and passengers.
The Union claimed that assaults against bus drivers and train staff has recently been on the increase, and stated thar the Union met numerous times with the Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch in 2014 and 2015 with the aim of improving the working conditions of employees in the bus industry. A 'panic button', which allows a driver to warn its central agency in the event of aggression, was partially implemented within different public transport companies but the installation of camera equipment on the RGTR bus network is still pending.
It is hoped that the 'Security of Public Transport Steering Committee' meeting on 22 July 2015 will lead to more advanced discussion of the threat and the additional security measures which may be implemented to meet it.
