Due to the new Emergency Response Plan (ERP) in the event of a nuclear accident, adopted on 15 October 2014, the laboratory of the Radiation Protection Division of the Directorate of Health, was not able to be built in the second phase of the National Laboratory (LNS) in Dudelange.
The plan, entitled the 'Cattenom Plan', provides that, for security reasons, no important services are to be installed within 15 km of Cattenom. The Ministry of Health and Ministry of Higher Education and Research therefore looked to new strategic partners for a solution. The new partner is the Integrated BioBank Luxembourg (IBBL), currently in its second phase of construction.
IBBL has reportedly developed extremely well in recent years, with twelve new service contracts in 2014. The research institute represents an ideal partner for the LNS, due to its need for expansion and the physical proximity of the two which will generate a collaboration of quality and additional revenues and savings.
The second phase of the project, currently underway, should be completed in 2017.
