The Economic and Commercial Section of the Chamber of Commerce and the Luxembourg embassy in Berlin collaborated with the National Innovation Agency and Luxinnovation to organise a two-day business trip to Dresden.

Seven economic and research representatives of biotechnology and materials research organisations were invited by Dr. Heribert Heckschen, the Luxembourgish Honorary Consul for Saxony and Thuringia, to a trade mission taking place in Dresden from 24 to 26 June 2015.

The trip followed an April 2014 visit from a Saxon delegation in Luxembourg, also attended by 7 high-level representatives from research institutes, universities and industries from Saxony and Thuringia.

This year's programme brought the delegation participants to first class Saxon research institutes, clusters and companies, including the Institute for Lightweight Design and Polymer Technology; the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology; and the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials.

The initial trip made in 2014 created a platform for opportunities of cooperation and new, promising contacts were reportedly made.

Of particular interest to the cluster representatives was the meeting with network colleagues, with whom the members of the research institutes were able to connect ideas and research strategies, while discussing the company's knowledge of the process and production of technologies.

The itinerary of the trip also included a trip to Dresden University of Technology, where they met with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Hans Müller-Steinhagen; as well as a reception from the Honorary Consul Professor Heckschen in Lingnerschloss on Luxembourg's National Day on 23 June.

The delegation also attended a seminar, organised by the Honorary Consulate and Commerzbank, on the topic of FinTech technology. Mr. Marc Hemmerling, a member of the Luxembourg Banker's Association, was the guest speaker in attendance.
