Sales-Lentz, a Luxembourg-based private transport company, inaugurated three electrified bus depots in the Oesling region on Friday 7 July 2023.

The event was held in the presence of Claude Turmes, Luxembourg's Minister for Energy and Spatial Planning, and brought together partners and experts from the sector during a round table.

After eighteen months of major electrification works, the company's three bus depots in the north of the country now have electric charging stations. Sales-Lentz has described these modern facilities as proof of its commitment to environmentally friendly mobility and said it aims to pave the way for a greener future for public transport in the region.

The inaugural event was marked by a demonstration of state-of-the-art technology, highlighting the advances made, as well as a panel discussion on the challenges of electrifying public transport, with the participation of experts from Creos, Encevo, Green Power Storage Solutions (GPSS) and Socom.

"Sales-Lentz is the best example in the deployment of advanced technologies. Thanks to companies like Sales-Lentz, Luxembourg is well known to world leaders in new technologies! Whether at the level of infrastructure producers or electric buses," said Minister Turmes.

The three northern depots, located in Allerborn, Hosingen and Koetschette, are now equipped with 70 new charging points. These charging points offer a power of 52 to 150kW, thus totalling a power of 2,400kW, and are exclusively powered by natural green electricity from renewable sources. This configuration allows the simultaneous charging of 72 vehicles. Once these facilities are operating at full capacity, Sales-Lentz will be able to save up to 2400 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year.

As a progressive company, our goal is to maintain our leadership position in green transportation solutions. We strive to push the boundaries of innovation and deliver solutions that meet long-term needs," emphasised Sam Sales, the new CEO of Sales-Lentz.

A transition to electric transport also involves the acquisition of new skills and an in-depth understanding of new technologies and safety standards. Therefore, according to Sales-Lentz, the company is emphasising the continuous training of drivers and mechanics to optimise the use of the new technology.

Joe Malago, CEO of SL Immo and Sales-Lentz Technical Director, stressed the importance of collaboration in carrying out the project: "The success of our electrification project is the result of exemplary collaboration and exceptional collective commitment from everyone involved. Together, we overcame the challenges in remarkable fashion."

Axel Michels, Head of Asset Management Creos, stated: "The main thing is to work well together, to know what each one needs, when and where, and to coordinate everything well."
