
On Thursday 20 March 2025, the Health Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security published its weekly retrospective concerning the evolution of the main acute respiratory infections including COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
During week 11, from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 March 2025, the number of influenza (flu) cases reported by laboratories decreased from 520 to 374, down 28% compared to the previous week. This downward trend in the number of cases has been consistent for the past six weeks.
During the week in question, there were 41% influenza A and 59% influenza B cases among the typed results. According to the latest available data, the subtypes identified were A(H1)pdm9 (42.9%) and A(H3) (57.1%).
Regarding RSV, the number of reported cases decreased by 23%. There were 70 confirmed cases, compared to 91 the previous week.
The number of positive SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) cases decreased from 35 to 25, down 29% compared to week 10. The viral concentration detected in wastewater has fluctuated over the past five weeks with an increase observed during week 11.
The latest available sequencing data reveal that three JN.1 subvariants, the XEC variant (57.7%), the KP.3 variant (12.9%) and the LP.8.1 variant (12.9%), predominated in February 2025.
