Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security has published its review of the week 14-20 October 2024, on the evolution of the main acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and whooping cough.
There was a decrease in the number of cases of COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 during that period. The number of positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 decreased from 317 to 261 cases, a decrease of 18% compared to the previous week. However, the viral concentration detected in the Luxembourg's wastewater showed an increase. Tracking of the presence of the coronavirus in the country's wastewater provides researchers at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) with a detailed view of the evolution of the virus in Luxembourg.
The latest sequencing data made available by Revilux (Respiratory Viruses Surveillance in Luxembourg) reveals that the KP.3 variant of the virus remained predominant in September.
The number of influenza cases reported by laboratories also decreased, from seventeen to twelve cases during the same period, and was reported as being at a low level.
A slight increase was observed for Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), with ten confirmed cases reported, compared to four the previous week.
The number of Pertussis (whooping cough) cases increased from five cases to nine but remained at a low level.
