On Friday 28 August 2026, the Fondation Autisme Luxembourg (FAL) announced that, from 2027, its new “Lollipop” service will offer early intervention for young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or suspected ASD at its premises in Belvaux.
According to the FAL, the service will use methods based on current scientific recommendations for early intervention, particularly the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), a developmental and behavioural intervention programme designed for children aged twelve to 48 months. The approach focuses on learning through natural, playful and motivating interactions based on each child's interests.
A multidisciplinary team will support children's development in areas including communication, social interaction, imitation, play, cognition, motor skills and independence. The FAL noted that the programme is based on three main principles: early intervention; individualised support developed together with parents; and intensive intervention in a structured and secure environment.
Parents will also play a central role in the programme and will receive regular guidance aimed at helping children apply acquired skills at home, noted the foundation.
Admission will be open to children aged twelve to 36 months who have an ASD diagnosis or suspected ASD established by a child psychiatrist. Children must also be followed by a referring child psychiatrist.
From Monday 4 January 2027, the service will welcome a group of six children aged twelve to 48 months on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 09:00 to 14:00. The programme will combine group activities with individual sessions provided by a multidisciplinary team.
According to the FAL, the initiative aims to promote children's independence and prepare them for inclusion, ideally in mainstream settings, particularly schools, while also improving the quality of life of children and their families.
