Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security has published a weekly retrospective that provides a summary of the evolution of acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for week 9, from Monday 26 February to Sunday 3 March 2024.

The overall trends saw a stabilisation in the number of COVID-19 cases, a stabilisation in the number of RSV cases and a decrease in the number of flu cases.

COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2

For week 9, the number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 increased to 42 cases compared to 41 cases the previous week, an increase of 2%.

The positivity rate decreased to 2.56% compared to 2.63% the previous week. The viral concentration detected in wastewater decreased compared to the previous week.

These indicators suggest that the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 has stabilised.

Influenza

For week 9, the number of cases of influenza (flu) reported by laboratories decreased to 206 cases compared to 312 cases the previous week, a decrease of 34%.

These data largely overlap with LNS sentinel surveillance which indicates a decrease in the circulation of the influenza virus.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)

For week 9, the number of people testing positive for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) reported by laboratories decreased to seventeen cases compared to fourteen cases the previous week. The epidemic's peak this season was reached in week 50 from 11 to 17 December 2023.
