The Luxembourg government, at its cabinet meeting on Friday, agreed in principle on a draft law relating to hygiene and safety practice for various practices related to tattooing and piercing in Luxembourg, as well as UV tanning.
The relevant draft texts have been submitted for opinion to the professional chambers concerned.
The two texts aim to regulate tattooing, piercing , branding and cutting. The need for regulation in these areas is explained by the fact that these activities involve gestures / actions / techniques which involve risks for the client's health, if they are not carried out according to the rules of art.
In addition to setting rules on hygiene and sanitation for these techniques, the texts contain certain provisions relating to the protection of minors. The text prohibits the practice of branding and cutting of minors. Tattooing and piercing on minors are subject to the prior consent of a person having parental authority or a guardian. The text also prohibits the provision of UV tanning devices to minors.
