On Friday 18 September 2026, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) warned the public about attempted fraud after a fake payment device was discovered on a parking meter in the capital.
According to VdL, the fraudulent device was designed to imitate a contactless payment reader and had been attached directly to the contactless payment area of the parking meter.
The municipality stressed that the genuine contactless payment area is integrated into the front of the parking meter and forms a flat surface. It does not take the form of a box, module or other protruding component attached to the machine.
Anyone who notices a suspicious or potentially fraudulent device on a parking meter is urged to immediately contact the Grand Ducal Police by calling 113.
