On Thursday 17 September 2026, Luxembourg's national statistical institute, STATEC, announced the publication of the 60th edition of Luxembourg in Figures.

The publication features the key statistics that provide a better understanding of Luxembourg today. Across 96 pages, it covers demographics, living conditions, employment, the environment, businesses and public finances, providing a comprehensive overview of the country's main characteristics and developments. 

STATEC said: “Enriched with international comparisons, it places Luxembourg within its European and global context. An essential reference for discovering the trends shaping the country and the challenges of tomorrow.”

Notable statistics:

• 6,439 babies were born in Luxembourg in 2025

• In 2026, young people under fifteen and people over 65 each account for 15.5% of the population

• The average age is 39.5 years for men and 40.9 years for women

• In 2025, 2,604 couples got married and 1,367 couples divorced

• Women have their first child at an average age of 31.2 years

• Luxembourg is home to 265,000 households

• Nearly one in two people is married (47.5%), while one in three is single (32.6%)

• The median income is €4,170 per month per adult, meaning that half of adults earn less than this amount while the other half earn more

• The at-risk-of-poverty threshold is €2,502 per month

• Niederanven is the municipality with the highest median salary, at €7,048 per month

• 1,126 road accidents were recorded in 2025

• Football is the sport with the highest number of registered members in Luxembourg (50,928), followed by tennis (15,417), gymnastics (8,639) and basketball (7,157)

• Residents spend an average of €1,304 per holiday trip

• One in five leisure trips is to France (20.2%). Germany (12.1%), Portugal (8.1%), Italy (8.0%), Belgium (7.5%) and Spain (7.5%) follow behind

• France is the favourite leisure travel destination of Luxembourg residents

• Luxembourg's vehicle fleet includes 461,297 private cars, of which 39,182 are electric and 70,686 are hybrid vehicles

• Nearly one fifth of household expenditure (19.9%) is spent on housing, energy and water
