‘Guide for One Day’ Highlights Schumannseck Memorial Trail

On Monday 24 August 2026, Luxembourg's Minister Delegate for Tourism Eric Thill and Frank Rockenbrod, President of the National Museum of Military History (MNHM), jointly led a visit of the Schumannseck memorial trail as part of the “Guide for one day” initiative.

According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy, the visit introduced participants to the historical site and the traces left by the Battle of the Bulge, while also remembering victims of the Second World War. The ministry added that the tour highlighted the importance of preserving the site and passing its history on to future generations.

The Schumannseck memorial trail is an important site linked to the Battle of the Bulge, with traces of the fighting still visible along the route.

Eric Thill also highlighted his personal connection to the site's history: “The Schumannseck is for me much more than a historical site. My grandfather was forcibly conscripted during the Second World War and told me about his experiences from that time. This history is therefore also part of my family history. This is precisely why it is personally important to me to preserve these places, continue telling their history and pass this memory on to future generations.”

The visit formed part of “Guide for one day”, an initiative organised under the “Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz!” campaign of Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy's Directorate-General for Tourism.

Launched in 2017, the initiative is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026. It gives residents the opportunity to become a guide for a day and share their knowledge, experiences or personal stories through tours focusing on places, activities, heritage or other topics of interest.

Interested individuals can still propose their own guided visit or register free of charge to participate in one of the tours, which take place from June to October 2026.
