On Friday 22 May 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported that they carried out alcohol impairment checks in Potaschberg and Mertert on Thursday 21 May 2026.
The checks were undertaken at the request of the State Prosecutor, as provided for by Article 12, paragraph 3, subparagraph 8 of the amended law of 14 February 1955 on the regulation of traffic on all public roads.
On Thursday 21 May checks were performed on the N1 in Potaschberg between the hours of 21:00 and 22:00, and on the N1D in Mertert between the hours of 22:45 and 23:45.
A total of 188 motorists were subjected to preliminary breath tests, even in the absence of any serious indication of impairment.
In five cases, the tests proved positive and official reports and/or fixed-penalty notices were issued accordingly.
One driving licence was confiscated on the spot.
During the operation, thirteen other offences under the Highway Code were also recorded.
