The Grand Ducal Police are undergoing a reorganisation and functions adjustment for police stations across the nation, effective from 1 April.
Among the changes underway, the counter and operations hours are being harmonised across the country, with operation hours running form 07:00 to 2100 each day, and counter hours from 13:00 to 15:00.
The aim is to give the units more flexibility so that they can better organise their service, increase their availability to citizens, increase police presence on the ground, through traffic surveillance, schools and neighbourhoods presence through preventive patrols at the beginning and end of the day, and to promote the practice of making appointments.
The statement released to the media notes that the offices will be open to greet the public even outside these window hours when the police station is busy.
Larger counter-clock schedules will apply in busier police stations at Luxembourg-Gare, Luxembourg Ville-Haute, Esch, Rumelange, Diekirch, Ettelbruck, and Steinfort.
In addition, police stations are always reachable directly during their respective operation hours, outside of which the call will be diverted to the intervention centre. A call to the police station and the use of the reception desk in front of the police station will allow direct contact with the police officers of the police station.
In this context, it is recommended that appointments be made with members of the police stations, in accordance with the needs of the citizen and the operational priorities of the police station.
In the same spirit of harmonisation, all police stations have been assigned a new e-mail address, which will follow the formula: "police.NomUnité@police.etat.lu".
Finally, it should be noted that the operation of the intervention centres is not concerned by this adaptation. These will continue to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In case of emergency, please contact the police under the emergency number 113.
