A man was taken into custody on Monday afternoon after causing damage to a church in Bettembourg, including objects that caught fire after candles were thrown. 

Inside the church, property including statues, flags, books, flowerpots and other objects were damaged through fire or from being thrown to the ground.

Police said the arrested man was found on site, barefoot, confused and unable to identify himself. He was taken into custody though, because of his condition and state of health, was first taken to hospital.
