Bob Nilles, President of the Berdorfer Laf Association, presented a cheque for €1,000 to SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde, during the association’s general assembly, held at the "A Weewesch" cultural and leisure center in Berdorf.
The funds were raised during the 9th Berdorfer Laf, a family and sporting event known for for its natural setting and for its after-party. The traditional race for young and old took place last June with 594 participants and many spectators to encourage them.
SOS will direct the funds towards projects that the Luxembourg association supports throughout the world, as well as development programmes focusing on the protection and rights of the child, care for children who find themselves alone, community support and education, as well as emergency assistance projects for children and families in distress. Last year, thanks to the many supports given, SOS Villages d'Enfants Monde was able to financially support 28 projects for more than 50,000 beneficiaries in 12 countries.
Sonos Dos Santos, partner of SOS Children's Villages World, thanked the president and members of the Berdorfer Laf association, the organisers of the race, including Fernand Schmitz, Secretary of the Berdorfer Laf Committee, and all those who took part in it.
The 10th Berdorfer Laf will take place Saturday 13 May 2017.
